Class Descriptions
These are some general guidelines for difficulty/skill level of classes.
Level 1:
This class is for beginners or dancers who wish to review the fundamentals.
Tango is a fascinating and complex dance yet it is based on some
simple principles involving walking and turning. We bring our
enthusiasm and passion to establishing posture with a clear connection
to our partner and the music. We learn invitations to movement;
leading, following, weight shifts, and pivoting. The parallel and
cross systems of tango are introduced as well as ochos, giros, paradas
and cruzadas.
Level 2:
For all dancers familiar with the fundamentals.
This class builds on the fundamentals bringing movement patterns
together in fun, novel and interesting ways. We add vocabulary such
as the ocho cortado, tomadas, rock steps, different giros, changes of
direction and sacadas while staying connected to our partners and
manifesting the music. For anyone interested we introduce working
closer or in close embrace with our partners.
Level 3: Intermediate and advanced topics such as boleos, soltadas, colgadas, volcadas. planeos are explored as well as challenging methods of combining material.. Every series focuses on different elements and new ways of putting these elements together.
Level 4: Instructor permission and partner required. Focusing on creativity and improvisation while reviewing how to execute movement in technically correct and satisfying ways for ourselves, our partners, and those around us. Working on the slow as well as more expedient paths to excellence in the dance.
